The Annual General Meeting was held on 8th May, in the Clubhouse at Mitchell Avenue. Quite a number of members turned out to hear a full round up of events covering the last 12 months, followed by voting for the positions of Club Officials.                        11 March 2010 ... Clarke McCallum ... Memorial Match

I am saddened to report that Clark McCallum a P.E teacher / Rugby coach at Coundon Court School, Coventry, died in his sleep on Monday evening 8th March 2010.

Here follows a message from the PE staff at Coundon Court School

***** ***** *****

To all that knew Clark McCallum ...

I would like to invite all interested persons to attend a rugby match against a touring side from Southampton run by Clark McCallums nephew (Scott) on Saturday 13th March at Coundon Court School, 10am KO.  Scott has said he would like to play the fixture, therefore we will honour it!

If you would like to attend could you please try to car share, walk, cycle as this could well be a popular event and try to park sensibly in designated areas only!!!!

As a result of this game our games vs King Henry VIII will be cancelled and the yr7/10 and 11 will be invited to attend the game, parents also. We would like to have a minutes, 'round of applause' as a mark of respect for our dear friend and colleague.

Clark jnr and hopefully his wife, Lorna, will be attending also and they have given their blessing......it would be fantastic to get a great turn out so Lorna could see what Clark meant to so many people. If you can attend it would be lovely to see you!

 Many thanks

 ALL in PE

                            19 January 2010 ... Bill McLaren ... Rest In Peace ...

Commentator Bill McLaren, known popularly as the "voice of rugby", has died at the age of 86.

Bill McLaren   ( 16 October 1923 - 19 January 2010 )

Mr McLaren, from Hawick, retired in 2002 and was appointed OBE, CBE and MBE for services to the sport. He began commentating on BBC radio in 1953 and moved on to television six years later. He went on to earn the respect of players, fans and spectators by being the best-researched commentator rugby had ever seen. He died at 10:30 GMT in the Community Hospital in Hawick in the Scottish Borders.

Murrayfield Stadium is to host a celebration of his life.

The event will take place at the stadium on Thursday 11 March, beginning at 6.30pm.  Details of the tribute will be finalised over the next few weeks but the family, Scottish Rugby and the BBC will work together to ensure a programme that reflects Bill’s great passions, not just rugby but also music from the pipes and drums to Frank Sinatra and Glenn Miller.

The stadium’s big screens will be used to replay some of Bill’s most inspiring commentaries, and guests from throughout the rugby world and closer to home will be welcome to offer their tributes to Hawick’s favourite son.

Scottish Rugby will issue updates via its website www.scottishrugby.org as more details are finalised for the event.

                            12 September 2009 ... Alan Tucker Memorial Trophy ...

Pinley v Cov Tech ... Despite being old and ugly, it was agreed that Paul 'TAT' Glenn should be awarded the Alan Tucker Memorial Trophy 2009. He produced a stalwart performance on the day whilst under great pressure from a really strong opposition pack ... Actually comments have been made that his shorts may not last another season, so it was thought best to honour the man before the inevitable occurs! ... Bravo TAT.
